4 Seed Recipes to help you live healthy

Seeds are a great source of fiber and concentrated vitamins in your diet. Including a single tablespoon of seeds in your diet daily can help your gut health, heart health and skin health all at the same time. They are the easily the best way to ensure you live a healthy life.

It can be difficult to include seeds in your diet. Don't worry, we are here to help! Here are four easy recipes that can help you include some of the seeds in your diet to start your natural food journey.

1. FLAX SEED RECIPE - JUICE

Ingredients:
 1/2 cup of Mixed Berries (Strawberry, blue berry, raspberry)
1/2 cup of Grape Fruit Juice or Orange Juice 
1 tbsp Ground Flax Seed
Honey add to taste

Method:
Put the mixed berries and the choice of juice in a blender with the ground flax seeds and blend until smooth. Add honey to taste and blend a bit more! 
You can add more juice if you like a thinner consistency. 

A glass of this in the morning will keep you fresh and on your toes throughout the day!

2. CHIA SEED RECIPE - PANCAKE

Ingredients:
1 1/2 cup All purpose flour
1 tbsp Baking Powder
1 tsp Sea Salt
3 tbsp Chia Seeds
3 tbsp Maple Syrup or honey
1 1/2 cup milk (almond milk if you want pancakes to be vegan)
Optional: 1 tsp of Vanilla Extract or Cinnamon 

Method:
Mix all the dry ingredients in a bowl
Add maple syrup and milk to the mixture and let it sit for 5-10 minutes for Chia seeds to do their thing.
Take 1/4 cup of the mixture and put on a lightly oiled pan.
Flip when bubbles appear on the pancakes and remove when the color looks light golden brown.

3. SUNFLOWER SEED RECIPE - SEED BUTTER

Ingredients:
3 Cups of Sunflower Seeds
1 tsp Sea salt to taste
1-2 Soft dates or coconut sugar

Method:
Preheat oven at 150C 
Spread sunflower seeds on a baking sheet and roast for 10-15 minutes or until lightly golden
Put the roasted seeds in the blender or a food processor and blend for 10 minutes or until smooth. Add sea salt and dates (without seeds) to the mixture and blend again until fully smooth and creamy. Store in a sealed jar for up to two weeks in the refrigerator.

4. SESAME SEEDS RECIPE - CANDY

 

  • Ingredients:
    3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon of ground nutmeg
  • 1 Tbsp water
  • 1 cup raw sesame seeds
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 2 teaspoons butter
  • 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda

    Method:
    Put the sugar, honey, salt, nutmeg, and water into a small, thick-bottomed saucepan. Heat on medium heat and stir until a smooth slurry is formed.
    Stir in raw sesame seeds in this mixture and remove from heat if the pot is over cooking.
    Pour in  vanilla extract, butter and baking soda at this point and stir until mixed properly.
    Lay out the mixture in a buttered metal mold or a baking sheet and allow it to cool.
